Need a gift for someone, but have no time or money to get one? Gift giving should come from the heart; the following gift ideas all come from your hearts and hands. None require any crafting experience, and most can be done by 3 and 4 year olds. Most can be made using things you have around the house so you won't have to purchase expensive craft items.
A rocky desk set is ideal for Grandparents, college age siblings, Mom, and Dad. For each desk set you will need:
1 jar lid (mayonnaise, pickle or jelly jar lids work well)
1 toothpaste cap
Ball point pen
A few small rocks
Glue
Small amount of felt
3X5 card cut in half
Marker
Scissors
Paint if desired.
On half of the 3X5 card in large block letters print the name of the recipient with the marker. Set aside until later. Use the jar lid to trace a circle on the felt. Cut out the felt circle and glue to the bottom of the lid. Glue the toothpaste cap inside the lid with the opening up. Arrange the rocks around the toothpaste cap. Glue the rocks in place. Paint if desired. Glue the 3X5 card on one side of the lid. Insert pen into toothpaste cap.
Covered coat hangers are great for students, newlyweds, or a house-warming gift. Take two thin wire coat hangers and wrap together with an attractive ribbon or yarn. Glue the starting and ending edges down.
Home made jams, jellies, cakes, cookies, and breads make wonderful gifts, include the recipe on a 3X5 card for newlyweds. If you wrap the gift in a cloth napkin, or tablecloth then you are giving two gifts.
If you pick up an inexpensive picture frame at a yard sale, or 5and10 store you can decorate with shells, artificial flowers, or for a more masculine look, nuts and bolts. Insert a favorite photo, and you have a wonderful gift.
Children's handprint or footprint pictures are fun for children to make, and what grandparent wouldn't treasure the memory of their grandchild's thoughtfulness.
Inexpensive gifts should come from the heart. Choose the gift with thoughts of the person in mind. Enjoy the process of making a gift and think about what they would like. Your imagination is more limiting than your budget.
