Description:
If using empty cans, wash completely and let dry. (If you are using a medium to dark color fabric, you do not have to remove the paper. However, if you are using a light colored fabric, check to see if the paper shows through fabric. If it does, you might want to remove it.)
If using a box, make sure that it is clean and both box and lid is in good conditions.
Place fabric on flat surface. Lay container on top of it. Cut off enough fabric to cover the outside of container and the sides of the inside.
Starting with side that is closest to you, pick up fabric and pull up the outside of the container, tucking it over to cover that same side on the inside of the container. (NOTE: YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO CUT SLITS AT CERTAIN INTERVALS SUCH AS ON CORNERS, TO FIT EVENLY INSIDE BOXES.)
Once you have covered the inside, apply glue with gluegun to back of fabric and press against container. Repeat same procedure, being sure to pull fabric tight, with remaining sides. (If you do not have a glue gun, you may use a stapler.)
Now, if using cans, it might be difficult to get a smooth fabric on the outside. So what you can do, is tuck fabric, creating pleats, before you glue to inside of can. This way, your can will have little pleats all the way around it. Be sure to staple or glue fabric down securely on the inside.
Once you have completed the wrapping, take a piece of foam. Cover with a piece of fabric or velvet in the same color, and tuck into bottom of box. You might have to cut the foam to the appropriate size of the container. Be sure it fits securely in the bottom, sort of tight.
To make the top, simply drape a piece of fabric over the top, letting it hang loosely. You want the fabric to brush the floor. Once measured, cut to the desired length. Using your Ironing Tape,(this can be found in Wal-Mart and Craft Stores), place one adhesive side around the edge of the fabric. Using a hot iron, iron along the tape to make sure it adheres to the fabric. Once done, peel off backing, roll up one time and using hot iron, press onto fabric, adhereing it into place.
Once this is done, apply hot glue with glue gun to the top of the container, and place fabric evenly over the top, pressing down lightly to adhere fabric to top. The sides should swing freely, like a skirt. If needed, at the sides, you may cut through the fabric tape making slits so the skirt hangs more freely. Apply lid to top of box.
Congratulations. You have made an easy jewelry box. At this time, you may decorate box with puff paint, beads, appliques', persons name, etc.
